Behind the Mask

I never imagined I would be sewing face masks….

Many years ago I was driving down Parkhurst Blvd in Leaside and saw a garage sale. There she was, an old Kenmore sewing machine with a $5 price tag. How could I refuse that offer!  With the help of my Mom, I learned to sew using this wonderful machine. Now I hem all my own clothes and enjoy day trips to the fabric stores on Queen West to find cool patterns to make unique clothing items for my kids and family.

If you live on Parkhurst and recognize this old Kenmore, let me know I have a free mask for you!

So, what led me to designing masks?….

I am a multi-disciplinary artist with a background in Graphic Design from George Brown College. I have embraced sewing, airbrushing and fine arts, multi-media design, web site development, commercial design, corporate branding, logo design and mobile application development.

Restless in the midst of self-isolation I had a burning desire to create. I looked at my old Kenmore sewing machine, made a couple stylish masks and on April 10, 2020 I posted them on the Leaside Community Facebook page to see if anyone in my community would be interested. The response was tremendous! One tiny post lead to hundreds of inquiries. A new passion had sparked. I worked an entire sleepless week perfecting mask designs and filling orders for those with urgent needs.

In that one week I have fully, completely, passionately….
